I was told by the person I bought my truck from it had 60lb Valve Springs in it, I tool the covers off to check to see if I really did, if not Id buy some since I have 4k Gov Springs. They look stock to me, but I cant tell......:scare2:

if you take one of them off and tell me how tall it is, i will go to the garage and check my stock spring height.

yep let me know:tu:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- a stock spring is 2.405 inches |
Just took out my valve springs, the measurement is 2 and 3/8 inch... If i try compressing it with my hand it compresses maybe about 1/8 inch with both hands, squeezing with my finger tips, but I'm just eye balling it. Sounds from the length it sounds like there stock but to what Dmaxkiller stated, there 60#..
Idk, what to go by? Anymore help guys!? :scare2: |

did the previous owner say he changed ALL the springs out to 60# springs? most people on a budget only do the exhaust due to it being the one more prone to hitting the piston if proper spring pressure is not applied. if you compare the intake to the exhaust and the intake is "softer" then they are 60#, if the previous owner cared and put 60# springs on the intake and exhaust then they should feel the same, unfortunately they will feel the same if they aren't 60# springs........
spring height should be the same from a 60# to stock. I have read 60# springs look more barrel shapped, mine doesn't appear that way, but I dont know if it is every make or what... Im so confused on this. |

I dont know why someone would install 4k gov springs without 60# valve springs, but you never know what people are thinking when they do things.
remember that the stock springs start pulling fuel at ~2100rpm or earlier, the 3K will pull fuel at ~2700rpm or earlier and the 4K will pull fuel at ~3400 or earlier. just because the springs say 3K or 4K dosen't mean that the motor will turning that RPM all the time either..... in my current build i have the 5KGSK in the pump and plan on turning the motor only to 4000-4200 for a short period of time. I won't go out on the interstate and drive anywhere @ 4000rpm...... i'll still be poking along turning 1900-2100rpm |

I put in 4K springs w/o 60# springs because i wanted to know that up until 3200rpm the governor would not de-fuel. just because i *could* turn 4K with the GSK i knew that there were consequences i would have to face if i didn't upgrade the springs.
