Any help in advancing my timing??
I am currently rebuilding my truck from the ground up. Im starting the engine work as I replace all the gaskets and rebuild some things. After I get my engine back together, I wanted to advance the timing on my pump to 16.5*. I have a barring tool but not the gauge and everything you need to calculate the timing. I was wondering if anyone that was in the Sacramento area had these tools, and would be kind enough to lend me them or even help me time the pump. Id like to know how to do this so down the line I can time future engines. :c:

set #1 on tdc with timing pin.
lock pump with the pin that you turn over on pump. take gear loose. where you turned the pin around on the pump there is 2 screws that hold the whole piece to the pump loosen the screws then slide that piece down about .025 to .030 tighten the screws , put gear back on turn the locking pin around on the pump, pull the timing pin on geartrain back out. that will put you at 15 - 16 advanced the easy way.friend of mine that does pumps on a machine showed me that. i did mine that way worked good. hope that will help |
Is that reliable though? A little bit to much of movement and timing could be way to advanced an I can do more harm then good... Im not a fan of eyeing measurements or guessing when there is a proper way....

well im just telling you the easy way if you cant figure 025 then i guess you should go pay
150 - 200 bucks to have it done but a lot of guys that you take it to will do it that way |
