TRANSMISSION

will a automatic transmission out of a 98 dodge 12 valve work in a 94 12 valve

As far as I know the 94 models came with a 47rh and the 98's 47re. The rh doesn't need a computer to run but the re does. You would need to swap in the computer and add a tps to make it work right. I would use a 47rh with a lock up converter and call it good.

When a lock up converter is "locked" your engine and transmission are directly connected with no slippage. Less slippage means that less heat is building up in the trans and that can make it last longer. Another advantage is that it gives you better performance and increased mileage.

Not endorsing ats, that's just a pretty good explanation of how a tq converter works.:c:

thank you that helped alot another question is if my fuel pump is turned up does that mean the star wheels is turned or not

South Tx Coal Roller 08-01-2011 05:47 PM

You can back the star wheel out until it's loose and go from there.

I was thinking Goerend but not 100% sure. I've been doing a lot of research on building it myself. I'm just shooting for 400hp so I don't need anything too crazy.

I'd seriously consider the Goerend trans. Talk to Dave Goerend he will set you up with the right trans. I've got about 3 years on my Goerend trans and is completely bullet proof. 100% satisfied. I put it thru hell with 600hp and loves it. Had a DTT trans in my last truck didn't like the hard shifts. Pulls like a rocket with the Goerend and smooth as butter.
If you check out Diesel Truck Resource same story Goerend is the best trans for our 2nd gens.

South Tx Coal Roller 08-02-2011 11:18 AM

It's just hard to cough up $4200 for the trans, $1k core charge, and $500 in shipping. I really want that trans but I'll probably have to go with a shift kit, billet accumulator, and billet servo for now.

UNOH-KID 08-02-2011 12:59 PM

im not happy with my goerand trans 9000 miles on it, it shifts hard. it slips, torque converter unlocks and lock going down the road, it wont go into 1st unles i manually drop it in, it was rebuilt 5 yrs ago but it only has 9000 miles on it.

Sounds like it needs a good servicing/set up. Tq converter locking and unlocking is probably the tps. Either way it shouldn't be acting like that, especially for the money.

I just ordered up my shift kit, billet accumulator, and billet servo from DTT today. That should keep my trans happy for now, as long as I don't do injectors.

Remember, it's dangerous, inconvenient and unethical to arrange wrecks to happen.:humm: :scare2:
