there is a turbo on an old concrete mixer at work and i was going to see if its worth taking and putting on my truck. How do i figure out what size it is and if it would work? it has a huge induction into it and the exaust out of it is like 4 or 5 in right off the turbo i dont see number but the warning tag says holeset. can any one help me figure out the size of it

RAW 06-21-2011 01:18 PM

Not too sure the exact size, but it does look suitable for a bottom charger in a comopund set up. It would take A LOT of fuel to spool that up as a single.

could i use my stock hx35 for a pusher.. and do u think its around a 74mm or something

i had the turbo on my truck as a bottom charger. it sucked. it can work but the housings need changed. it has a T6 flange and is way to big to run as a single. i wouldnt recommend it. thee turbo model i think is a HT60. i had bought the truck with the set up and found out it was pretty rigged.

can you get me the engine serial number off the engine and i might be able to tell for sure what model turbo and maybe some specs on it

skeet615 06-24-2011 08:05 PM

yeah ill try to get it for you ill look tonight if i work if not it will be on monday ...

what would i have to do to my stock charger to use it as a pusher what kinda housing do i need? im just trying to do a cheap twin set up because i can get that turbo for cheap from work.. thanks alot guys

I am using a stock HX35 as my top charger, and a S400 as my bottom. Spools fast, and produces cold boost.

both turbos need wastegates too reduce drive pressure. and the hx35 isnt made to ush air through it and will cook itself. mine did it! :tu:

skeet615 06-27-2011 12:53 AM

On the big holeset it says 24k5 does that mean anything.. And when I do the twin set up can I turn my stock manifold around to get the hX35 up high enough to put the bigger turbo below it

RAW 06-27-2011 07:32 AM

Not too sure on the 24K5.
When you do COMPOUNDS, yes you can turn the manifold upside down to make room. That's exactly what I did.

young gun 06-27-2011 07:39 AM

that is true^ you have a compound set up. not twins. peope often mistake them. and you might even have to move your heat exchanger for the trans cooler. and as i said. the exact same set up was on my truck and it sucked!!! dont even waste your time trying to do it unless you want to lose power

skeet615 06-28-2011 09:16 AM

thanks guys you are always a big help ill post pics when ii get it done

Ok Ok, what's the difference between TWINS and COMPOUNDS???:alone2:

bobfbigman 07-03-2011 02:52 AM

twins are 2 turbos that feed the intake independantly and compounds are when one turbo feeds another turbo and that feeds the intake, Most V8s would have a twin setup for example, one turbo on either side of motor that feeds the intake manifold. compounds are called that because they "compound " the air. when you take 20psi and alot of volume and put that into another turbo that can produce 40psi you are capable of moving more air volume and pressure without alot of lag waiting for One Big turbo to spool up

Chevy72 07-03-2011 11:19 AM

Thanks bobfbigman!! I felt like I was the only one who didn't know the difference!! But I get it now, thanks
