Default lift pump?

Having trouble getting my truck to bleed out after doing the DV's and wondering if my lift pump could be bad.

Before the DV swap when you would start it cold you had to have your foot on the throttle for 30 seconds to a minute to keep it running because it wouldn't want to idle. It then would idle normally and run fine from there out. Could that be a sign of it going?

I have fuel to the banjo feeding the ppump but it won't get anything to the injectors and my fuel shutoff seems to be working fine.

It could be the pump, you might have air getting in your system somewhere also, a cracked rubber hose or bad O-ring or someting, I also would check your relay for your grid heater, I know thats what happened on mine and it had a hell of a time wanting to start or idle then once I replaced the relay it would fire right up and idle

Ok, I will check the grid heater relay out tomorrow. I don't think air is getting in because it doesn't sputter when it starts it just wants to idle down to nothing and die but there is always the possibility. I just talked to someone that works at Cummins and he suggested checking if the overflow is properly working so I am going to also do that.

Sounds like a good game plan, let me know if these resolve the problem or not, if not all think of other things

Got it running yesterday. Needed to keep priming it and it still wouldn't get fuel coming out of the overflow valve but it showed signs of life and I threw a rag full of gas over the air filter to get it to fire and run and now its good.

I will be checking on the grid heater next week when I get a chance to do the last few touch up things to get it together.

Ok sounds good man glad to hear you got it going, for future refference dont use gas or starting fluid to start your truck, it can cause damage to the engine

Yeah, I know they cause pre-detonation especially if you let glow plugs/grid heater warm up but I've heard a gas soaked rag over the air filter is a lot better than anything else because it will suck the fumes in and gas doesn't detonate as quick as starting fluid.
