loosing prime
 

I am having problems starting my dodge
I posted a thread earlier and was told to replace fuel lines.
so i replaced the return line which did have some dry rot.
Alright.. so when I bought the truck the owner told me he replaced the
fuel gauge unit in the tank.
When he was putting the tank back he heard a pop cracking noise.
My question is this-
Is there anything in the tank that can make truck loose prime?

i bought a 97 a few months back and had a similar problem the guy i bought it from had recently replaced the lines and the lift pump and still lost prime well it turns out he broke the fittings on the sending unit in the tank after a little research i found out the sending unit is very expensive new, in the area of 350 bucks and me not having alot of money turned to a different way to fix it. i bypassed the sending unit and used some rubber fuel line from the exhisting lines to a home made draw straw for the feed lines and just ran the return line into the tank with the rubber line it worked very well for me but if you have the money to get the sending unit i would go that route. if you do use the method i used maybe get a holley blue inline pump to take some of the work off your lift pump

when you pump it up manually does it get really hard to push?

No, the primer pump will vary little as far as stiffness
sometimes i wonder if it is even working

i had the same problem. and after a month of messin around with the fuel lines. i just got an air dog 150 with all new fuel lines and it fixed the problem completly. mine was suckin air at the lines by the tank. where the lines take a 90 degree turn downwards towards the bottom of the tank. but the airdog 150 was around 500 bucks installed. but its a much more reliable pump.

it might not hurt to change your regulator also if it hasn't been done...i know they have a tendency of getting weak...but i'm sure these other guys are right and its in the fuel lines...take the line before the pump and put it down in a gallon of fuel and see if it will prime up and get hard
