is my turbo going out?

went out to move my fuel plate some and when i took the intake horn off the intercooler tube there was some oil in the boot. im assuming it has to be coming from the turbo. am i going to have to but another turbo or could i change the seal myself or what?.... assuming it is the turbo. is it ok to drive like this or should it be takin care of like right now? thanks

Passing oil is not a HUGE issue but it should be taken care of rebuild kits are about 80-120 bucks and there a cake walk to do

Make sure you have no shaft play either

oil_burner 04-25-2011 03:24 PM

yea theres is very very minimal shaft play, its just letting oil by

jayman54 04-25-2011 07:26 PM

if its just a light coating ur ok..if its actually like soaked and wet all the way to ur intake then i might be fixing it

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

make ur your airfilter is ok... a good restriction will cause oil to pass under heavy boost conditions

oil_burner 04-25-2011 07:46 PM

its got a newer filter on it, deffinitly more oil in there then usual but not a ton....anyone ever used that rebuild kit on ebay for $40?

big bad diesel 416 04-25-2011 07:55 PM

dont be cheep its not worth the 40 bucks now for the 350 or more to replace the whole turbo later get genuine holset JMO

oil_burner 04-25-2011 08:04 PM

yea thats kinda what i was thinking, was just wonderin if anyone knew anything about the cheap ones

Question. I thought a shop had to rebuild turbos to get them balanced just right? Ive read the rebuild thread before but last I heard they had to be balanced..... someone clarify please.

To the OP, you want to see a turbo thats goin out, drive on over to my house lol

True but not true

If you buy GENUINE parts they are pre balanced a guy can change wheels shafts bearings ect ect all day long and most 99% of the time never have an issue I have never sent a turbo off and never had an issue with one

if you want to send your turbo off it wont hurt it to get balanced but there are better things to do with the money

ever looked at a upgrade wheel? notice the notches? those are "pre" balanced wheels

rebuild it your self have no worries :c:
