Lower EGT's

What can i do to lower my EGT's? If Im not careful they can climb very high when under a load.

What mods do you have? If you fill out your signature, it will allow people to help you better. :tu:

bluedieselram 04-21-2011 11:07 AM

TWINS!!!

EasternAggie 04-21-2011 11:54 AM

If you have added fuel, a bigger turbo/twins to burn it all will definately help cool it down when matched correctly.

I dont think i cant put a sig being an "enthusiast". anyways I have a '92 with a Inline pump, #4 plate, 4K spring, mack rack plug, 5x14 injectors, 18* of timing and a hx35/40. I dont know what the limit on hot is, im not willing to take it past 13 intentionally. It climbs very fast so im sure it will keep going.

heavy hauler 04-22-2011 09:16 PM

Is the truck intercooled or not?

lodal cummins 04-23-2011 10:25 AM

intake and exhaust may help a little. as far as water/meth, better have some good head bolts before going that route.

kieron_kohlmann 04-23-2011 01:03 PM

It is intercooled. I have ARP studs with a ringed head.

12valvetater 04-24-2011 06:15 PM

1300 is not that hot but you will need more charger than a 40 if you want to stay in the fuel pulling a trailer. I would run a touch bigger. Something like a 63/68-13s would work like a champ.

kieron_kohlmann 04-24-2011 08:55 PM

I just got this turbo, so i would like to run it for awhile. Any other help?

EasternAggie 04-24-2011 11:01 PM

Heard good things about the 63/68/13

kieron_kohlmann 04-25-2011 06:25 AM

Id like to stay with the 35/40 since it is pretty new. Any other help?

cumminskid92 04-25-2011 06:36 AM

less fuel or more air. thats pretty well your options unless you go with a water/meth kit.

I agree. The 5x.014's are a tad bit big for the 35/40, really with an agressive plate they're even a bit big for a 62mm turbo.

BRE 04-26-2011 05:48 PM

With the right size 62 those injectors will do just fine if you ask me. Dont let egts scare you to much. They are something to keep an eye on closely yes but in another way people get to scared of them.

kieron_kohlmann 04-26-2011 07:29 PM

I get scared because i know aluminum melts around 1300* So what is the limit for short bursts?

BRE 04-26-2011 07:31 PM

Ive personally seen 1700 on stock pistons might have been more. Im not gonna say i take mine very high myself nor do I condone of the 1700*. The hottest my truck has ever been is 1250 at that point i shut it down.

EasternAggie 04-26-2011 08:49 PM

Running in short bursts over 1200 shouldnt hurt anything. Granted, you dont want to do it all the time, but every now and then wont cause instant meltdown.

12valvetater 04-26-2011 08:50 PM

Unless you hold it flat going up a mountain and the gauge is pegged for a minute or so you shouldn't melt anything. Be smart about your driving but don't be a pu$$y. If you don't want a bigger turbo you are limiting yourself pretty good. You have bigish injectors but I have overwelmed hx40s with stock fuel systems.
