Default Fuel Gauge issue

probably a dumb question but my fuel gauge doesnt work. i thought it was the fuel level sending unit but from what ive read, if those go out the gauge will always read empty. but my gauge always reads full. any ideas what coulld cause it besides the sending unit? i dont want to spend 100 bucks on a part i dont need.
thanks

Id like to know this answer too. My fuel gauge goes all over the place. If I fill up, it will say its full, and slowly go down, when I have about half a talk or more, the gauge says I'm empty and will fluctuate between all the way empty and near empty?

I gotta rely on the odometer for when the next fill up is...

im screwing around trying to fix it right now. when unplugged it reads empty, when plugged in it reads full. does this mean its bare and grounding out somewhere or that the sending unit is bad? thanks

Clean the little grid on the sending unit with some alchohol and cotton swap. It may fix it, it may not.
