Agreed, both are pretty much unavoidable over time... Same with rotted our rocker panels!!

Some seals are better than others and how much they leak or not is variable according to many factors. Our '07 is almost tight a drum. The 1st Gen had a slight rear main leak when I got it at 50k miles. It's the same now at 100k, not even enough to notice except for the drop always hanging below the bell housing. I imagine it might have started when it was still at the dealership back in 1991.

Not gonna worry about it. :nope:

...My vacuum pump is leaking again after being re sealed, any ideas?

Chevy355mark 05-20-2011 12:54 AM

i always hear about the vacuum pumps leaking. is that some sort of seal between the power steering and the vacuum pump thats always going bad on these things? because my truck just pisses power steering fluid and i really haven't even taken the time to look into it.

It doesnt leak oil..... it sweats power! But yes if you have a cummins that doesnt leak oil you are in the minority.

yeah my truck leaks to.I know the ccv tube is nothing to worry about but it is also leaking on my steering components.do i need to get that kit too, or is it not that big of a deal?i have been drivng with the truck a month since I noticed it and have not seen anychange on the dip stick.i did put an extra quart in it cuz I had nowhere to put it when I changed my oil.

I guess it depends on if you can lift the engine high enough off the mounts with it attached to get the pan un-bolted, old gasket out and the new gasket in while working around the pickup.

From what I've heard, and the way it looks to me, the answer is yes. There's probably somebody out there clever enough to find a way.
