if the shifter wont go in to gear it might just be shifter adjustment, but you need to be more specific. your trany should not cause 4x4 prob. does 4x4 shifter click in to 4x4? or does it not move? will it go in to low? you may have to put truck in reverse and lightley let clutchout to get in. Is this new problem? New truck?

I have that problem too. dealer in kentucky told me it worked and i stupidly believed them. My transfer case will shift in and the driveshaft will take the power to the axle but it won't shift in. When i bought it, it was a manual pull axle disconnect. However that didn't work right and wouldn't adjust right so i pulled it out and put in the vaccum. however there is not enough of a vaccum at the end to pull the shaft into place. I think what you (and me) are going to have to do is run new vaccum lines from the transmission and replace all the diaphrams inbetween.

Amen Pappy! I fought mine for years replacing axle bushings and driveshafts vaccuum pods and shift forks. Last year when we were covered up with snow it left me stranded I got it home and slid the ring in place and slapped a little flux core on it. Now its a live front end no vaccuum problems just pull the T case lever it has no choice but to work..
