Broken Bolts!!!

So trying to take ac compressor off today and both of the lower bolts litterally torqued right off... so now i get to drill out and use extractor. Has anyone had any experience with extracting bolts that are stubborn SOB's?? :argh: :argh:

I'm using liquid wreck nut/bolt freer to break through rust and any siezed parts.. then using a punch out to tap the bolts alittle with a hammer to vibrate them and get that compound in there to do its job...

Big question is what's the process for extracting this guy? using a drill bit and power drill drive into broken bolt just far enough to get a good amount of the extractor in... left hand turn extractor till tightens down then hook it to a rachet with pipe to torque it out? :s:

Thanks for help here guys.. would hate to destroy a good compressor with a grinder (not that that would help my stuck bolt problem)

Yeah, you pretty much got it. The more extractor you get in, the better off you'll be. Make sure you use the correct size drill bit for the extractor you're using. I've found that cobalt drill bits make quick work into even hardened bolts. Just make sure you drill straight in to avoid knicking any threads. Also, you'll probably want to use a starting punch to help keep the drill bit from walking around on you, especially if the bolt didn't break with a nice flat surface (which almost never happens). Good luck! :tu:

stupid question, but will a heat gun do job when directed at bolt? as far as freeing them up? obviously wont work here.. after that fact, but i dont wanna put a torch to the block with oil residue and whatnot on it
