converting to a 5 speed trans need help picking a clutch
bought the truck last summer with a supposed rebuilt trans and it went out in january. im getting a 5 speed to put in and need to get new clutch for it. when i got the truck i was told it had 90 hp delivery valves and injectors a 24 valve turbo and a adjustable fuel plate half forward i dont know what kind of hp im running i drove a buddies truck that has 400hp on dyno and mine doesnt seem to have as much power. i dont want to spend $1,000 on a clutch what do you guys think? the trans im getting is out of a 98 12 valve.

Rigid double ceramic buttons

he may can get a single disc and be alright
|
Singles are a waste of money.
|
and duals are more than hes wantin to spend lol
|
well ive looked at alot out there i dont do alot of pulling when i do i pull a skid steer total pulling wieght about 9000 lbs. you think a single will hold up to that. and like i said im not gunna add anymore hp although i dont even know what i have now i just know it is alittle more than stock.
|
if that's all your using it for, a stock single disk will do just fine
|
even with it being over stock hp you think a stock sigle will be good and it will last a while.
|
I have a south bend single disk rated at 475 hp and like it pretty good. I jumps a little when you have to ride the clutch but itsd great. I drove a friends that had a dual disk and should have spent the extra couple hundred and gotten the dual disk. Just my 2 cents.

thanks guys i will let you know what i end up getting

hey get me one to while your at it :)

i have heard alot of bad things about the zoom button clutch but i think that it holds up great with the mods that i have to my truck... and believe me theres about 7 or eight of my friends that try to race me on a daily basis and they all get left in the smoke and they all have automatics!!

i just helped my buddy pick out a clutch, we decided on the valair 13" organic, its right around 600 bucks but it comes with the flywheel to upgrade to a 13" clutch. so you save a bit at the machine shop since you dont have to have your flywheel machined and resurfaced.
when my clutch goes im gonna end up just getting the valair organic for the stock flywheel because it is the absolute cheapest way to go and still holds more power then this turd will ever make. these trucks really aren't the hot rods everyone acts like they are, it doesn't take the worlds most expensive clutch to hold these things. |
with the resurfacing the flywheel i was told when replacing my clutch that it isnt totally necessary to resurface the flywheel. the only suggestions that i may give you is just to take a sander and run it across it to scuff it up. when machining a flywheel they suggest shimming it up because that moves the flywheel away from the slave cylinder requiring the clutch to still drag slightly. My zoom is $700 new but with my brother working at the local napa i got the clutch for just around $350.

i got a valair 13'' k/c rated for 500hp. i pull heavy loads all the time and it works great even with all of my mods.
