12v vs. 6.0l

ok today i race a chevy 1500 with 6.0l in a 1/4 and got beat by a truck length. i thought i had him but he got by me at the end my truck didn't have no more in it plus my egts were 1600 so i let out. but i thought with my mods i should have beat him. the 6.0l was stock.

You need more air!

ltr450 02-10-2011 04:11 PM

i know just got a turbo for it today. i am going to dyno it at dillsburg hoping to get 400hp

cummins95 02-10-2011 04:46 PM

what did ya get for a turbo?

Lil Red Express 02-10-2011 05:26 PM

Gotta remember that gasser is atleast 2500lbs lighter.

deerefanatic 02-10-2011 07:08 PM

And the torque rise on a gasser is alot quicker than an I6 diesel. That's where a v8 diesel like a duramax or 6.0 powerstroke has an advantage over the cummins.

kazairl 02-10-2011 07:25 PM

Don't feel too bad. Those 6.0l Chevys are no slouch.

cumminspwr11 02-10-2011 09:48 PM

but they get shit fuel milage compared to us and dont tow as good, i drove a 2010 1500 v-8 chevy for a few weeks and it was gutless

ltr450 02-10-2011 10:12 PM

cummins95 i got and hx40 i got a good deal on it that i just couldn't pass on it. next year i want to put twins on it. plus i got to buy some control arm bushing front springs and a new steering box.

kazairl 02-11-2011 08:57 PM

Depends. Supposedly the 6.0ls they put in the Denalis get better Mileage. The LS series motors are Badass no matter how you slice it.

hedgehorn 02-11-2011 09:12 PM

The 6.0 Chevy runs good. I drive one for a work truck. It gets decent mileage as well. I have no bad words for the 6.0. I love my Cummins but if I were to buy a Gasser It would be a 6.0 :pca1:

cumminspwr11 02-12-2011 12:34 AM

i think the only thing i would buy gasser would be a car, i have had cummins since i start driving and have drove a hemi and few chevys and ford gassers around and they dont even compare to a diesel to me but thats just imo, hemi was the best gasser i have drive thro

what turbo did you get?

monster12valve 02-12-2011 07:48 AM

A 63/68/12 would smoke that 6.0:jump:

Curious, but what flange do we have? T3 or T4? im looking at new turbos for my 96 12 valve.. i have the original h1c and it isnt cutting the mustard! i have moderate mods.. but will 75hp injectors supply enough fuel for a HX40? or bigger Turbo?

Every gasser truck Ive driven has been a disappointment power wise. The owner will talk about how badass his truck is and I should try it out, then he's puzzled when he sees the look of disappointment on my face.:pca1:

The weight of the diesel vs. the 6.0 is the killer. Weight is far more important to racing than power. Weight of every thing on the cummins is larger, the rotating assembly, the drive train, and the truck itself. If we could lighten the rotating assembly, and the drive train with out killing durability it would make a HUGE difference.

Stock injectors will get a 40 lit.
