so im putting my motor back together over the next few weeks and wondering what you guys do when you put them back together for engine start with no oil pressure

i put brand new pistons and rings in, new head gasket, main bearings, and rod bearings, basicly everything new and i want to know whats a good break in process and i heard i need to put it together with a special oil for the first time start on all the new stuff

i would say just coat everything in oil like bearings and pistons

:jump: Lots of oil and lube on assemblely and you should have no problems.

^^^^ Agreed and also you will want to take it easy the first 500+ miles to help set the rings. At least thats what ive done in the past on all the engines ive done

Dunk the push tubes and pistons in non synthetic 15w40 and coat the cylinder walls. Mains, rods, lifters, cam, rockers get coated in assembly lube. Fill it with break in oil. Leave the valve covers off and do not let it fire before you see good oil being pushed to the the top end. Do not put any coolant in the engine. Fire it up let it idle until the head temp reaches 190 and shut it down. Let it cool completly and fill it with coolant. Run it 500 miles and change the oil to a good synthetic.

Hey I'm putting mine back together in the next week I should be all done. I'm going to post more pics of the hole project. I know on a 318 or 360 gas motor you run it for 2@ mins at 2000rpms and after that u drive it like you drive. I'll probably do the 500 miles and change oil though just cause this is my first diesel build but after that it's balls to the walls.

The reason for firing it without coolant is to break the rings in.
