6 speed conversion
hi i have the 5 speed nv4500 tranny and i want a six speed really bad what are some good ones to get also what are some good places to get performance stuff for my truck
What 6 speed are you talking about and why do you want it?
Well, if you tow, that jump between 3rd and 4th on the 5 speed is kinda big.. Plus, they're slow shifters too....
the 6 spd costs twice as much to rebuild than the 4500.

I have an NV5600 6 speed in my 94. It was a pretty simple conversion, as long as you have access to someone to do your drive lines. The 6 speed is like 9 or 6 inches longer. Transfer case will bolt right up if you have a 4wd, but you will have to either modify the shifter or install a 24V 4wd shifter, as the NV5600 doesn't have provisions to mount a 4wd shifter on it. Also, you will need to extend the Reverse switch wiring to reach the location on the 6 speed. You need to go to a junk yard and get a crossmember from a 24V truck with a 6 speed.
I like it alot. The NV4500 did shift faster than the 6 speed, but it was also just rebuilt and I do have a dual disc clutch compared to the single disc in the 4500. I do like the gear spread alot better and we'll see how it tows, but having had 2 other 5600's, one in a 24v and 1 in a CR, I think the 12V/ 6 speed combo is going to be great for pulling. |
Another thing to keep in mind as well is the 4500 has stronger syncros and take the gear jamming and slap shifts better than the 5600.

G56. If you're not running big power, it will hold. That's what I want.....
whats about the limit for a G56? roughly 500hp?
6 speed conversion
I know a guy that put down 750 on ii dyno and runs a g56
the ford 6spd is the baddest combo you can put on a 12v for 6sp wise, the g56 IS the lightest duty out ther, the strongest would hve to b the zf 6 in a ford and it will withstand a lot of torque and gear jamming, i plan on putting one in mine instead of the lightweight 5600, just hve to get the time
