241-271 transfercase swap

I have a 97 2500 manual. It has the stock transfer case in it and I have a 271 DHD out of a 95 3500. I heard that the 271 will bolt right on to m truck, no mods needed.
Is this true?
Thanks

I'm not sure but if your interested in a ES 271 t case I have one

If it's out of a 95 it's still a 241. They made dld and dhd. Are you replacing it because it's broke or?

You have to shorten your rear driveshaft and massage the frame a little. Your also going to loose your speed sensor. and you will have to shim your vacuum switch in order for it to work properly.

Edit: just notice what Red Rattler pointed out. That is not a 271. Probably not a DHD either.

? Then what transfercase is it? The situation is, we have a 95 dually truck that had a battery blow an light the front in fire.... And we have a 00 24v that was screwed up so we swapped the 12v axles onto it, but kept the transfercase and driveline and what not from the 24v on it. The transfercase now died on the 24v and we were going to take the one off the blown up 12v and stick it on, but since it's a one ton dually truck it had a more heavy duty transfercase. I was told 271 DHD. and I was also told it wold bolt right on..... So if it's not a 271 DHD what is it and is it better than the one in my truck? Will it bolt on or will it be a pain.... And if it's going to be a pain won't it be a bigger pain trying to make it work with the 24v truck?

The 24v setup was a 271 and the 95 is a 241. It will bolt in but the shifter setup is different the driveshafts will be different lengths. It would be in your best intrest to sell the 241 dhd and buy a rebuilt 271 and put it in.

So the Stock transfercase 24v 2500 is a 271DHD? and it got tore up.... Would it bolt on also? I guess I can get that one rebuilt. And I have the driveshaft and stuff from the 95 12v still, would I need to swap that too for a 271 to fit? Is the 241 DHD better than the DLD enough to make the swap worth it?

you should have a 241 dhd in you 24v the 271 started in 03 IIRC

and yes the 241 dhd is way better than the 241 dld ... the out put shaft is a lot bigger in the 241 dhd ( the 271 is even bigger than the 241dhd). you will need a new slip yoke as well for either the 241 dhd or the 271

jonnyktm93 01-31-2011 07:29 PM

Ok then I'll stick it in my truck ;) where do I get a new slip yoke? The 24v will probably need one too right? For my DLD.

the dld dhd and 271 all use a different slip yoke. stock u joints or you looking to go bigger?
