Default Few Auto Questions.

Ok its time to mod I have had the truck all of 3 weeks and stock isn’t working real well. My First question is just how much more power can I add before my stock trans says bye bye. And how long is its life with that? My next question is can I just add a VB and Triple disk converter and maybe an input shaft to handle more power or should I go fully built from a shop basically do I need to upgrade the clutch packs? I will be driving with the TC locked more often than not. The reason I ask is funds are low right now. But im looking to get more power cheaply. My first round im thinking about the 300hp area later ill add hotter sticks DVs and maybe a new turbo.

i was putting ~250hp down through mine for a year or so (from 140K to 160K) untill it finally kicked the bucket. IF your tranny shifts good and there isn't much clutch material in the pan when you do a fluid change then you prolly could get by with a converter and valvebody. don't worry about the input shaft for now. save that money for when you do a fully built tranny..... there are plenty of guys that sell trannys that are good. do your research and make a bunch of calls. I personally like Goerend Bros. as that's what i have in my truck.

IMHO, save your money do it once and do it right. Figure out where you want to end up HP wise and build the tranny to take that and then some.

As for how long will the stock trans. last, all depends on how you drive it and what kind of shape it's in. Some can baby it with 400hp and last awhile, others can't get it to hold stock power levels. You could probably get away with a mild plate and some timing and be ok for awhile, if you don't beat on it.

Goerends is great! We have had no problems with them at all. Now, for you, right now, I would do a Trans Go shift kit and thats it. Save the rest of your money and put it in the built transmission fund. Transmissions are spendy, but awesome once you have one!
