dodge days are over for a while

well today im driving and my temp gauge shoots up quick and my heat went cold so i pull over and smoke is comin out from under the hood. i open the hood and rite around my oil filter steam is comin out bad. so im 99% sure its a head gasket and i dont have the money for that again it needs ball joints and wheel bearings and tires are gettin low now a head gasket and ive got body work all done with no paint ha ha got a guy thats never seen it wantin to trade a 97 yota motor with a 4x4 5 speed in it ext cab with 10k miles on a new motor and transmission and new 32x12.50's on it and a 88 mustang gt 5 speed he wants to trade me so im gonna try to fix all the little stuff and primer alot more on the truck and block it and try to trade. maybe days later ill grab another diesel but cant afford it rite now.

oh did you clean the block and head good before you put the new gasket in?

gone ropin 01-16-2011 10:50 PM

stock head gaskets are only 59 bucks at napa,,,,,and just get a set of grade 10 allen head bolts to replace your current head bolts with and while your apart check the head and engine deck with a strait edge,,, good luck

turbostang7 01-16-2011 11:06 PM

i'd keep the dodge, its cheap to fix it!

BRE 01-16-2011 11:53 PM

So let me get this straight... Your gettin rid of the truck because of a blown head gasket?

blazier18 01-17-2011 04:08 AM

a shop did it last time and i may not yet idk it needs quite a bit of work

94 12valve 01-17-2011 11:01 AM

it can be one in a weekend, just make sure to clean all the sealing surfaces real good. And torque the head down right

blazier18 01-17-2011 03:43 PM

im gonna keep my truck i reckon and do it my self

im workin my but off rite now tryin to get work all done so i can get orings and head studs #60 valve springs a 4gsk and 5x14 injectors in the mix but would a he351 be alot better then my hx35 for now

turbostang7 01-17-2011 10:10 PM

probably not a lot better but still better than the 35.

blazier18 01-17-2011 10:29 PM

u gonna sell me yours :)

turbostang7 01-17-2011 11:15 PM

haha already got it all modded and installed, there is one for sale localy for $200 probably get it shipped to ya for like 25 i think thats what i paid to get mine from north carolina. are you lookin for the ve or the cw? the ve is a little involved to put on not direct bolt on

blazier18 01-17-2011 11:42 PM

just somethin that can handle more horsepower and boost then my hx for now

turbostang7 01-17-2011 11:49 PM

they will both handle more hp and as for boost i think they will run about the same, but its realy not boost you need its cfm, the 351 flows a lot more air at the same boost level as the 35 will. i have heard that the 351ve will handle up to around 500hp, seems pretty good to me so i went with that for now, but i will add an s475 under it for twins latter on :tu: the ve seems to be the cheaper option but more involved to install, not bad though took me about 4-5 hours to fab up everything and install it

blazier18 01-18-2011 12:57 PM

is it louder? how did u do everything u already know i cant fab unless it sit right in front of me

turbostang7 01-18-2011 02:50 PM

it actually made my truck quieter out of the exhaust, the turbo has a different sound, kicks in much sooner. as for the fab work i drilled and tapped out the original bolt holes for plugs, installed then and ground it flat, then i took the old t3 gasket from the hx35 lined it up to where the inlet was centered, marked the holes and drilled and tapped them. you can put 3 studs in but the bottom hole near the firewall the manifold has to be ground off to allow for a stud to go through, the bottom on the front needs a bolt to go into the manifold, if this doesn't make sence i will try to clarify a bit. as for the intercooler pipe i just got some 3 inch exhaust and a mandrel bent j bend and fabed it up, not hard at all. i also control the vanes with a return spring, just welded an arm on and put the sprin on to have the drive pressure move them, will have to do some tuning as soon as i can drive the truck again lol

blazier18 01-18-2011 07:42 PM

u have exhausr brake? im gonna get 5x14's and alot of pump work soon timing to 20* sdx comp delivery valves or let shortbus throw some magic on them and alot of head work and a he351 and aint figured wat i want for a bottom turbo yet but i want it where when they kick its g force lol

turbostang7 01-18-2011 08:20 PM

i don't have the exhaust brake set up, i have heard that the s475 works great as a bottom turbo for the 351ve, im not quite ready for that kind of boost yet though lol

blazier18 01-18-2011 08:57 PM

ha ha soon ill be gettin 12 mm head studs and gonna oring my head do a 4gsk kit and #60 valve springs and head work. im trading my 370's for 5x14's and having alot of professional pump work done and get competition delivery valves so im in need of somethin

turbostang7 01-18-2011 09:31 PM

yep, need tripples! with the new one finaly here my funds for the truck have gone down the tube so upgrades are going to be slow and far between now he better apreciate it lol if i were you i would definetly do twins instead of a big single just for driveability, a big single is a little rough to drive on the street

blazier18 01-18-2011 11:42 PM

yep im gonna do that when i lift my truck to push those 38
