x2 on drivin on the street. a spool will probably suck quite a bit. I haven't heard of snapped 60 rear shafts, but it does seem like a lot of people go to a bigger axle to make the center section hold up.

how did you end up with a 60 in the rear? was it a factory gas truck? ppl break axles in the 60 all the time, in those years they where only 30 spline. you can put 35 spline axles in it as long as you change the side gears or change the carrier to a locker or something but a spool would be a bad idea on the street. srw 80 axles are the same length i believe and are 35 spline.

i would go with an 80. i give mine absolute hell and never had a problem

All 5-speed trucks came from the factory with a hybrid dana 80.

If you drive your truck on the street I wouldn't get a spool, there horrible to drive around town and I'm sure you WILL break the shafts. I had a D60 rear in my 76 power wagon that I welded the side gears in making it a "spool" and broke the shafts and the carrier if you want traction that you can still drive around get a Detroit locker
