problem maybe fuel, maybe timing maybe valves

my truck had a fuel problem when i got it, when i put it to the floor it would spit and sputter. i thought it was just the valvesso i adjusted them, that helped a little, put injectors in it( bosch 370) no difference but more power, put a lift pump in it, big difference. but still runs rough. drove about 30,000 miles and now its back. so i put the old injectors back in and adjusted the valves, that helped alot but still has a slight miss on heavy acceleration. other than that it runs fine. i think its delivery valves but havent got to get thm yet. any info or thoughts helps

sounds like it could be the over flow bolt. have u replaced it yet?

No I haven't, the banjo bolt for the supply line and return line on the top of the fuel filter housing?

blazier18 12-27-2010 11:50 AM

no theres a overflow valve in your pump

the return line coming out of the pack of your injection pump has a banjo bolt that restricts fuel, and when they go bad, they will do what your describing :tu:

pukie370 12-31-2010 11:49 PM

im not shure the best place. i did se a cheap tester at harbor freight, but i dont always like there tools. i would ask some cummins guys what comp should be.

went to harbor frieght about 2 weeks ago but the tester dont work on cummins, it works for almost everything else though

The overflow valve ended up helping a little, but it had air in the system, I'm going to clean my 370's put dv's in it and advance the timing in the near future, I'll post what it does after that
