my gauge cluster is freakin out in my 98

there is something serriously wrong with my gauge cluster speedo rarley works and even gets stuck sometimes rpm works most of the time but goes up and down alot oil presure goes off sometimes but comes back on and abs e-brake and seatbelt lights are on at all times and wait to start and check engine come on usualy come on when rpms are freakin out and also my lights flicker when things go crazy but the truck dives perfect abs and e-brake fuction perfectly. here is what i think the problems may be the batteries are 2005s but they start the truck fine even in the cold and when its been siting, posibly a bad ground, and the vss, maybe the gauge cluster itself tell me what you guys think

I've heard of problems like this when the crank sensor starts going bad.

do all our 98's have voltage regulators? my fuel gauge is a liar it goes up and down and never stays still. my speedo dont climb till 20 mph thats all mine does

Dirt_Diver 12-10-2010 08:25 PM

Voltage regular=yes Whatever fp gauge you put on a 12v will jump. Just because the lift pump is ran off of the cam so it will not get a good reading. What you need to do is get snubber and a isolater for it, to help calm down the gauge because where its moving all the time itll kill the gauge evently

well im swappin clusters so the problem will remain till i get those two things?

daveO 12-11-2010 10:27 AM

Voltage regulator is in the PCM unfortunately.

blazier18 12-11-2010 02:28 PM

dang dodges

Threesixty 12-13-2010 11:35 AM

I doubt it has anything to do with the batteries or the volage regulator. But, as for the voltage regulator in the PCM, it's bypassible.
