Running Cold

Is it normal that truck runs cold after removal of cat and muffler?? Do i need to change thermostat? Also fixing to put in a #8 fuel plate and boost elbow and guages. Truck has 230,000 + miles. Is there any thing else i need to do? Truck runs great but cold, 20 mpg. Dont want to ruin it, but need a bit more power.

Thanks For any help!! The plate install sticky on here and P7100 adjustment Great!!!!

Does the thermostat kick on and off alot? how cold is it where you are

moneyman_09 12-10-2010 11:07 AM

Id guess that your thermostat is stuck open. str8 piping will lower your egt but your engine should still run the same temp.

it is in the 40's. It didn't start this until i removed the cat and muffler. Before then it ran 185 190 according to guage. now heater blowing luke warm air, and very little to no temp on guage. does not warm up after a 30 mile drive to work.

Thats sounds great. I will replace thermostat and see!!! Thank You!!!:tu:

Thermostat is stuck open it sounds like. The exhaust has nothing to do with the coolant systems

moneyman_09 12-10-2010 11:14 AM

Well sometime thermostats just go out better to be stuck open then closed and 7 gallons of continuously moving coolant in 40 degree weather might not heat up in 30 mins

Will running cold hurt anything????
