Cliffs Drag Truck Thread
2 Attachment(s)
ok ok ok ok so i i figured it was about time i posted up a thread about my lil project. Its a 1994 single cab 2wd auto. i picked it up for 3700 and it was in great shape had some 70 hp injectors modified plate and afc along with a gear vendors and bd exhaust break. I bought the truck to be a play toy so im not concerned with issues like towing or fuel mileage this will be a street/strip rig only. This was the truck when i bought it
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1393908_n.jpg I then proceeded to take the wheels and tires i had from my old truck and mount then and i stripped her naked http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5206424_n.jpg I bumped the timing up to 16-17 degrees and ran her this way at the track. I got a 15.7 at 86 mph. Drove it like this untill i blew up the overdrive sun gear and with a huge thanks to BBD i got it rebuilt with a sun-coast triple disc converter billet input, sun-coast hd rebuild kit, and trans-go shift kit. I also put some 191 dvs, 4kgsk and a rack plug in it, took it to the track to run it down the 1/4 mile and blew up my turbo first pass (it was maxing out my 50 psi gauge:w2:) and ran a 15.2 at 93mph. Well i was low on money and i have had a hx60w sitting around for years so i figured what the heck ill give it a shot as a single. I made up an adapter plate, exhaust and charge air pipe and wala http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...mart06/109.jpg the turbo came off of a isx signature 600 series engine and came with a Titanium compressor wheel and a flow rate of around 130 lbs a min. The turbo has a 5 in v-band and i made a 5 in turbo back with a 6 in stack. Attachment 44154 I found a nitrous kit on craigslist for $200 with a big solenoid and a 10 lb bottle i rigged it up with a main power switch and a momentary toggle to light the turbo at the track. I also managed to get my hands on some II 5X18 injectors to get some fuel to the truck. With this setup i have ran a best of 13.598 at 106.48 Attachment 44155 I plan on getting slicks, cal tracks, losing the hitch spare tire and actually getting a real lift pump other than stock on the truck and dual feed it. The most recent addition are some dv's i installed from robs diesel that are similar to 191s in top end fuel but smoke less and spool better. I plan on keeping you guys updated as i progress in going way to fast. :jump: end goal is 11 sec range -Cliff |
:tu: keep us posted! :pca1:

Wow those are some good numbers man.
And I cant believe how small that turbo is ;) |
Its just a little guy, the crazy thing is that its not that bad on the street and the truck is still driven every day while the parents borrow the Jetta.
|
very cool
|
:tu: nice work mang:c:
|
LIKE, when does that turbo lit ? 5000rpm :')

|
Sounds like a fun truck.

just ordered a Hamilton big stick (181/210) cam, air dog 165, head studs, and some cal tracks :choochoo: this should wake the truck up considerably, when the head is off ill port and polish it and look into some o rings as well. Just need to find some slick and ill be ready for next race season
|
nice looking truck, you can put a 2095 mack rack plug in it for like 20 bucks but you have to pull the pump off or grind the timing cover a bit. I also took the fuel plate out and it made a hell of a difference. But i know some guys will says that it could do a run away. Mine hasn't but you never know, i guess its just a risk you take.

Got the air dog on last night and went ahead and did the dual feed on the pump. Set the ad at 50 psi idle and throttle response has increased greatly high rpms under load rock and it pulls s much harder up top it almost is scary. Went from a stock fuel system to a wild one:rocking: |
one long night zzzzzzzzz

Well just got done installing a Hamilton 181/210 (new design), did some port work on the head and the stock exhaust manifold, installed a new head gasket along with some studs. broke in the cam, some new 60lb springs, made it so i can easily adjust my waste gate (set at 60psi) and some smokems special dvs. broke in the cam and took it for a drive (going easy) i can now get 10 psi at 2k rpm which is about 400 rpm sooner!! it builds boost much faster now and it is far more drivable on the street an impressive feat for a 76mm hx60w. once the cam is fully broken in im going to set the valve lash a little tighter to .008 and .015. i cant wait till i can get into with the new toys. im thinking of bumping the timeing up to 20 22 degrees now and maybe even putting an afc back on it!! will hopefully have it on a dyno in a week or two.

does your fuel pressure hold 50 psi at wot?
|
I'm waiting for my new sending unit it currently goes to 60 psi and sits there no matter what I adjust the air dog to. So no idea lol

lol, Just wondering. my 150 would hold 44 at idle and drop to below 38 on a hard run. |
my 165 at 60psi dropped to 51 at wot

Well When I put every thing together on my truck last week I noticed something.
. My hx60 is the same overall dimensions as my new gt55 and would be a direct swap minus the adapter. Attachment 43522 So while my truck is down, injectors have been sent out to be reworked and I poped the head gasket, I figured I'd make up a t3 to t6 adapter and try the gt55 as a single. It will be an epic fail or work well. I plan to eventually put a gt40 over this 55 but this should be interesting to say the least. |
ppfffttt that 55 is a baby turbo :moon:
