hard starting
ok ive been trying to solve this problem for a very long time. basically when it sits for a few hours it starts like crap. it pops and blows white smoke like airs getting into the fuel line... and once its started it runs fine.. heres what ive done to try and solve it... new injectors, all new fuel lines, new fuel tank, lift pump, ofv... i cant think of anything else it could be.... its really anoying... any ideas?:argh::argh::argh::argh::argh::argh::argh:

i would check the timing to see if it has slipped. just my 2 cents
timing has been re-set multiple times...

sounds like your loosin prime
Do you still have your oem fuel heater? Any leaks that you can see?
yeh still the oem fuel heater.... and yes it still leaks around the tank.. its drippin off the bottom of it.... but its a new tank and new lines so??? lol yeh its def loosing prime... i just dont know how.. i havent replaced the injection lines yet... could the seals on those be bad?

Leaking at the fuel heater is a common thing. Lots of guys have taken theirs out.

I would check compression

how would you by-pass the fuel heater? that kinda sounds like a bad idea when it gets cold out? maybe not... idk.

hey man look at the heater i for got the name but its were the air horn is it sets under the air horn take the air horn off and that little heater thang and see if it is broking or something that is what mine was
we have a 94 that did the same thing and we plumbed the lift pump to the filter and it has woorked fine for 7 years in all kinds of weather. it did the same thing as yours is doing. thats just my guess.
what do you mean by plumbing the lift pump to the fuel filter?

just take the line that runs to the fuel heater and run it to the fuel filter. did the truck ever have biofuel of any kind run in it
the fuel heater from the tank?:humm:
no the line that runs from the fuel heater next to the lift pump its the only thing between the lift pump and the fuel filter.
no its never had bio fuel. from my understanding the fuel comes from the tank, into the fuel heater, than to the lift pump, and from there to the filter?
you are right that was my mistake the 94 we did that to someone had replumbed the fuel to go from the lift pump to the fuel heater instead of the way its suppost to. i had to bypass the fuel heater on my 96 today. it quit working and the fuel was wanting to try to gell up in it. thats where i figured out that lil quirk. i still think that getin the fuel heater out of the picture would be the next step. the only other thing i can come up with is that a fitting on a return line is loose or and this is a biiiig if that it has a cracked cooper washer somewhere in the fuel system and checking for that is a pain.
ok i think i figured out how to bypass the fuel heater... kinda seems like a bad idea when its cold tho? maybe not. i was thinking possibly that the seals in the injection lines have gone bad?
you dont need a fuel heater. come on. buy some anti gel if you have that problem
ok ill put that on the to do list than.
the seals may be bad but thats kind of a long shot like i said before. as far as the fuel heater goes just treat the fuel with anti gel or some kerosene. Im goin to get yelled at for recomending kerosene but we ran kerosene mixed with diesel for years before we started putin anti gel in. and buy good anti gel to put in it. the cheap stuff will sit on the bottom of the fuel filter and slowly get very nasty looking
