Big Oil leak/ Tappet cover
I have a massive oil leak in the front of my motor. Right now I am doing the KDP repair and everything looks like it should. I did notice my plastic tappet cover is warped real bad and prob is leaking from there. Why is it plastic and why did it warp? Also did they make 2 timing covers for the KDP mine is a raised one. Do I still tab it?
Anything else I should do when I tare apart half of the motor? |
set timing to 15-16,5°

I ended up braking the cheesey cover, I was thinking about one from PDP. Did Blow-by warp my OEM one?

that billet one is sweet if you have the coin.
I'd make sure your not leaking from the vacuum pump/power steering pump while your in there. |
Shouldnt be plastic... Mine and every other one ive seen is tin... and Im lost as to what u mean by raised one? the kdp is inside of the timing cover... More info or a pic of what u have goin on would be great

My timing cover is aluminum and the newer design I guess because it is a 98. The normal KDP tab will not work. I need to bend it like a Z shape. I was a little confused on the tappet cover. the outside had insulation on it and that is what looks warped. I am going to make my own tap put timing cover on it run it with out acc. on and find the leak. And be done with it. Thanks for the replies.

if the kdp pin is not flush with the surrounding metal, it needs to be pushed back in and then tabbed.

my timing cover looks like the one in post number 4 in link below. Not flush the PO peened(sp) it over

*******Found it. The stud and nut that holds on the IP backed out and is pissing oil out the hole. Thank god its an easy fix. Now time to fix the rest of my broken junk

set timing to 15-16,5°, you wont regret it :)
