KDP??
I'm a powerstroke man but my dad just bought a 96 auto 2500 with a 12 valve. I have heard about the KDP but what is it and what does it do forsure? How do you prevent it from comign out?

KDP= Killer Dow Pin. it is a steal dow rod the is placed in the block as a timing mark. it is fixed by removing the front timing cover and putting a tab over it. you can find all the info and pictures by searching these forums. have fun with that 12v, maybe trade your powerstoke :choochoo:

Sorry to correct anyone, But I too am new to this forum and the term KDP stands for Killer Dowel Pin! Yes, It is a dowel pin used in the front of the block to locate the timing cover. The cover has no closure over the dowel pin to keep it from working its way out of its proper location and falling into the moving gear assembly below, Actively grenading the timing cover at very least and causing an oil leak. This is one of the first fixes I performed on my 12 valve as soon as I got it. You could make your own tab to bolt over the dowel pin hole, But I would suggest investing in a timing cover gasket. The magazing Diesel Power had an article on it earlier this year that covers the entire procedure. Enjoy those diesels .....

IMO, as a former psd owner, once you start playin with a 12v 2nd gen, you will never want anything else.

some say they wouldn't want nothin but a cummins and some say they wouldnt want nothin but a powerstroke. it's all personal preferance and i'd certainly buy a cummins but i'm just pointing out a stupid little problem that shoulda been fixed right away. before the 24 valves
