center drive shaft bearing wtf
 

I have had an issue with my truck shuttering apon heavy acceleration, from dead stop. this was noticed when i first bought my truck 3 years ago. i replaced the center carrier bearing on the rear drive shaft. (LONG BED CLUB CAB). seemed to almost cure the issue. soon after the truck started doing it again. i have since had the transmission fully rebuilt, i know that the u-joints are good, and i feel the drive shaft is balanced, due to the fact its fine @ high speed. My question is, is there a special bearing or "Heavy duty" bearing i can buy? whats going on here, has anyone had this issue?

It would make sense for them to make some sort of upgraded carrier bearing but to my knowledge no such luck. Im fortunate enough to have a one piece drive shaft in my rig. My buddies with long wheel base trucks usually eat through them. And when it comes to lifted trucks if your pinion angle is too much you Really eat through them. I have seen people replace their two piece shaft with a one piece, but that is about $500.

do you know anyone thats built them? i would figure if you could do it in one pice it would have been done from the factory. ill look into it. 500 is nothing i have already put 1 new bearing in and they are 100 bucks a pop, i have done about 25k since the new one so it would add up to 500 really quick.

i have read into it, i gues its common, and you can have a single shaft made. now i have to research and find who can make me a shaft, i heard on cummins forum, that you can get one out of a chevy duramax. i just need to figure out what size truck and how long the shaft is. im itching to get this fixed if anyone has any other information on this please chim in!

just replaced mine about 3 months ago and i believe it was the factory one that i replaced, i did notice also that are are 2 different types of the carrier bearing, some dodges take 1 and some take the other i believe mine was type 2 and i had a pain in the a$$ trying to find it because autozone and advance only had the one type i did finally find it at napa for $90, i did see that there is a difference in the two types so maybe that has something to do with longevity and durability? If yall want pics i can get you some of the 2 different ones

3\4 ton uses one type shaft size is smaller
1 ton is a bigger shaft size thats the only 2 i know of

or you could just do away with the carrier bearing like i did
