The clutch disc looks great I was planing on just using this clutch, flywheel and pressure plate for a few more years, but I don't want it to blow apart and take out my tranny. Do you think it will last? I won't be making more than 300hp and don't tow trailers often. Thanks |
get a new one a flywheel should never be used with cracks like that.
|
Surely you jest! Get a new one, and you wil need a new clutch as well. Consider yourself very, very fortunate. BTW, did you remove them because of chatter? If so, you found out why.

man that flywheel looks worse than my last stocker when i burnt that clutch up. and a piece of advice from experiance go ahead and replace the clutch and flywheel with a unit that is a little stronger than what you need cause burning up clutches is not cheap.
|
Alright:argh:, does anyone have any info on upgrading to the 13" clutch and/or a good place to pick up the parts? I see the kits on ebay for $400-$500 but not sure if they are any good.
Can I just pick up the parts from my local parts store or are they a custom thing? |
i used a valair 13" upgrade on mine it was like 650-700 orded straight from them but ask for a quote on here im sure the sponsers can hook you up. it was a good clutch better than the centerforce i put on before.

thats looks all sorts of bad.
|
It doesn't look that bad to me.
|
A few hairline surface cracks are normal and may safely be ignored.
But not those! :scare2: |
I suggest buying a double disc just because your never gonna have to worry about the clutch again but if money is tight likewise stated

Nothing like suggesting he use a 20lb sledge to drive a finishing nail into a piece of balsa wood. That flywheel looks like it has seen several clutches and never been refinished. It also looks like someone likes to slip the clutch a lot. It's up to you as to what you want for a clutch. Given what you have stated it might be the easiest to just buy a new flywheel. If your clutch and pressure plate are in good shape there shouldn't be any reason to replace those. If you are looking for a mild upgrade, The entry level clutches from South Bend and Valair will probably do you just fine. At about twice the price of the Napa Special. They will last longer though. As with anything, The life of the clutch depends a lot on the driver. |
I normally would love to drive a nail into balsa wood with a sledge hammer:rocking: but when the sledge hammer will cost hundreds of dollars more than a framing hammer I'll just get the framing hammer.
I ordered an entry level southbend, it should work fine for me. I got my brother to machine the clutch (for free) and the cracks are quite deep, it would of made good wall art:tu:. The guy I bought it from must have liked to ride the clutch I guess:td: and he said it was replaced about 30,000mi ago. It sounded like his mechanic "buddy" liked to rip him off:td: so it's possible he didn't machine the flywheel, that was my first thought when I saw it. |
