Gears, etc...

First question: my truck tops out around 82 MPH... 70 is about 2500 RPM's... Anybody know what gears I've got? Irregardless they've gotta go! What ratio is ideal for lots of interstate driving, not much towing and still have enough low end to kill them dmax's and strokers? Secondly, has anybody else had problems blowing boost hoses off with a mild setup as mine?Twice in two weeks and I tightened the crap outta every clamp after the first time...

what size tire do you have? These trucks came stock with either 3.55's or 4.10's in the rear. If you have 4.10's find a set of 3.55's to swap in there. Also a gov spring kit will help.

Yes blowing intercooler boots if fairly common, your best bet is to take the boot off and clean the hose very good before reinstalling the boot. if they still blow off you may want to upgrade to and aftermarket set of boots and clamps.

Thanks for the info... Also with 4.10's what kind of top speed am I looking at withhold te 3k and 4k GSK's? What about with the 3.55's? I'm pretty sure I'm goin to 3.55's soon because the 7 hours on the interstate running 2500+ rpm's is getting old!!

Taller tires will help some on your gearing issue, just keep in mind that your speedo will be off unless you recalibrate it . :c:

Sounds like you have 4.10 if you have stock tire size. I have 3.55 in mine and with everything stock it wouldn't go over 90. It will do over 100 mph now with the gov kit 3000K. And some mods. Tranny hates it though LOL Auto...It will smoke overdrive! LOL ..Yeah I have another tranny waiting. I have a set of 3.55 but Im too far away...

On another note, I have no clue what clutch to buy! I'm not worried too much about the cost; Im not sure what all means what..... I'll have injectors, 4k GSK, and 5" exhaust soon, just had a baby and mama won't let me go out and play, but my stock clutch didn't last an hour after the fuel plate disappeared... I know south bend is the brand to go with... After that I'm lost... :argh:

34" tires and a Gear Vendor overdrive fixed that problem for my 1st Gen. Still got the stump-pullin' 4.10s, but cruise at 1800RPM@70MPH.

there should be a sticker on the underside of your hood with gears ratio, also should be a tag held on by two bolts on the side of the diff that says what gears are in there, or pull the cover off and see whats stamped into the side of the ring

Confirmed 4.10's... Thanks cumminspwr11...

I need an over-overdrive on my 5 speed!! I'm fixing to put mine in the tranny shop for my 3rd gear synchronizer... U think they could change the 5th gear ratio or is that feesible? I'm definetly getting 3.55's but I'm lookin for more than just 100 mph... Side note I really do appreciate all the help from everybody!!!:tu::tu:

No - bad idea, even if it was possible, which I don't think it is. With a manual, five gears is the bare minumum needed to move these things around, especially with a load on. The jump between 4th and 5th would be too much.
