Smoke, albiet it "cool" to some, is in fact very hot. Black smoke is essentially unburned fuel exiting the engine thus resulting in very high exhaust side temperatures. A poorly tuned "smokey" diesel could have catastrophic results if not properly driven or re-tuned. If smoke is all you are worried about, you better have a spare motor ready...I have a melted piston to prove the point behind my theory. What you should be looking for is a balance of power, reliability, and maybe a little show off cloud now and then. Do you and your truck a favor and check out some of the threads in the section specific to your truck. Knowledge is the real power. As a hint for your trusty '95...AFC, Fuel Plate, Smoke Screw, and GAUGES. Learn to master them in a responsible manner and you will get the power your desire. Also, if you already have this diesel, don't post in "potential owners" thread...it just pisses off the mods. |

First question is, why do you want smoke? Second question is, do you understand the pitfalls to having a smokey rig? Third question is, have you checked out the helpful hints in the 2nd Gen 12 valve section?

For one thing a 95 12v cummins is a mechanical engine unlike the 24V. Use the search button for information on tuning your afc and slididng your fuel plate. Excessive smoke is just a waste and gives us all a bad name. I would get gauges first to monitor boost and EGT's before any mods. Then tune your afc as desired. Your actually getting off easy in this thread as I have seen others ask the same question and get butchered. Just do your research. And if you have an automatic you better be ready to upgrade, the stock dodge tranny is junk but with some good parts inside them they can hold some good numbers.

First off let me appologize for telling u to get a programer. Smoke is jus unbernt fuel which isn't good even tho It does look badass wen a truck roals some coal.
well im only 16 but i no that you can NOT put a programer on a 95 cummins:nope:
if you wanna make power your in the right place. smoke will come with more power
:tttt::tttt::tttt::tttt: i agree with captain_stabbin and 93 fummins on this
I have no idea why people even mess with the smoke screw. I had more than enough fuel available in it's stock setting! And too much fuel down low actually make your truck SLOWER...

thanks man
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- well my self i like the smoke and im not planing on stoping it any time soon:pca1: |
Right but the smoke screw won't give you any real power gains lol but if that's all your after just take the screw out and find one that's twice as long and turn it all the way in
Man your making a mistake, I'll tell I did the same thing when I was younger and had my first 12 valve, all I wanted was smoke, and thats what I got along with a big bill when I had to rebuild my engine. But I can tell ya the street manners of your truck will be alot better if you grind your plate and TUNE your afc, my truck just has a little puff then its off like a rocket which is alot better than a truck that makes alot of smoke and no go in my opinion. But if all you want is smoke than yank out your fuel plate and loosin your AFC screw all the way, You'll be sorry I promise ya that:bat:
well i have done all that and im not geting nothing and i want power and smoke
Did you turn your star wheel the right way? Its supposed to be towards the front of the housing. What all do you have on your truck as of today, if you would fill out your sig then we would have a better chance at telling you what you need
I have a exhaust brake and i put a new fuel filter 2 weeks ago
