Timing slip
Ok how does the timing slip and how do i keep it from doing this. Is it from not tourquing the nut enof or do they just slip because my truck used to get like 20 and now in 6 months its getting 13 and i dont have that much done to the pump.

the gear is a tapered fit so the shaft and gear must be super clean when timing is set. Cummins says to torque the gear nut to 144ft/lbs, Most my self included torque the nut to 155ft/lbs to help prevent slipping.

How many miles have to be stacked on a stock truck generally for the timing to slip?
|
also make sure the shaft and the gear is clean of oil, spray them down good with brake cleaner or lectramotive spray befor you install

When I did my timing before I got my pump sent off and built I just reused the washer and didn't have any troubles.

It can really vary, but it wouldnt hurt to have it checked every 100,000 miles or so, not that big of a job to check it, plus it could slip a little bit and you cant really tell, can effect performance and mileage. |
Ok thank you

So i can reuse the washer?
