fuel gauge

Hello all,

Have a question...

My Fuel Gauge is acting up. tank is full, sometime it reads full, and when driving it goes to empty then to 1/4 tank and back to empty.

Is this a sending unit problem? do i gotta replace the whole sending unit or and plug issue?

Thanks
:humm:

make sure the plugs gotta good connection!!

that would be the sending unit but make sure as said above that you are getting a good connection everywhere

mine does that to. where is the sending unit and witch connections do you check? is it the one on top of the tank?

kayden101 03-07-2010 04:25 PM

it would be on top of the fuel tank, but im not sure which connections, i suppose check em all would be a good idea

Check the connection on top of the tank, make sure it is good, but we have seen a lot of these trucks act like that, we had to replace the sending unit in the tank, but i would start with the simple stuff first before you start replacing.

Mine was doing this it was the connection ontop of the tank.

are you able to just replace the connection on the top? i called autozone, pepboys, orielliy, and napa and was told i have to replace the whole pump and it would range anywhere from 200-400 just for the item....:td:

btw the gauge starts working after i wiggle the wire and elbow but stops after i drive it or hit a bump

you shouldnt have a pump in your tank anyways. you should have a lift pump on your block or something in line. it should be strictly a sending unit not a pump.

and judging by the second half of that statement, sounds like you got a wiring problem there.

get it to get a solid conneciton. if you absolutely have to, splice a wire to bypass the connector for the wire thats losing connection. that will at least tell you if thats whats really wrong with it or not

ok ill give the wiring a try.... so your saying the whole unit thats inside in the fuel tank is the sending unit?

sorry am a little confuse...

thx in advance
