Timing

OK so i was wondering what you guys think about timing... where should i set it? I was thinking about 16

zach_west 02-28-2010 11:00 AM

mine's set at 16.5 timing runs like a champ.

Dr. Evil 02-28-2010 11:44 AM

mine too ^^

How much fuel do you have? How fast do you want to spin the engine? Is this a DD? Do you have anything done to the head to keep it clamped with increased cylinder pressure?

Hammer 02-28-2010 12:24 PM

With stock head bolts,a stock gasket and no o-rings I would reccomend anymore timing than 16.5 degrees.

Beyond that on a stock motor and your asking for early dismissal of your headgasket.

BRE 02-28-2010 12:53 PM

Right now its stock. But eventually its getting the plate probably taken out, 4 thousand springs, the usual. Right now I have to get the timing adressed because with almost 300 thousand miles the timing has slipped a little and when its cold due to the timing being retarded it runs rough and smokes.

12valvetater 02-28-2010 01:05 PM

Retarded timing will make it easier to start and run better in the cold.

BRE 02-28-2010 01:07 PM

Not when its retarded past factory. Yea it starts fine but it runs like crap

FastCR 02-28-2010 04:58 PM

16.5 is what I'm going to. gonna retorque bolts first though.

BRE 02-28-2010 05:25 PM

Yea that was the first thing i did was retorque my head.
