will more power hurt

will changing to a 10 fuel plate or even removal of the fuel plate hurt my engine with 240,000 miles on it. it is a 12v with 180hp p7100 injection pump, and automatic tranny

cummins95 02-18-2010 06:14 PM

its not gonna hurt the engine, mine's got 280k on it n its runnin fine. what is gonna suffer is your automatic tranny. do u have gauges?

monster12valve 02-18-2010 06:43 PM

i got 290k runs great..... the tranny well thats a diffrent story:argh:

no i dont have guages yet but have been looking, how much horsepower am i looking at with either a #10 or no plate at all, and what guages do i really need to invest in

cummins95 02-18-2010 08:07 PM

i wouldnt do anything until you get gauges. definitely get a pyrometer (EGT gauge) and a boost gauge. you can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage in no time at all if your not careful. with my truck, i made sure i had all the supporting mods before i even touched the fuel plate. i put the gauges in 1st, then the intake n exhaust, n then i started tweakin. as for horsepower i have no clue, but ur gonna see alot of parasitic loss thru a stock automatic
