Automatic Transmission

Hi Guys, I'm from Spain and here almost all the cars are with manual transmission. I'm testing my new dodge ram 96 cummins, and I have some doubts with automatic transmission when put the shift lever in D position the truck begins to run, but I think no runs very well, I need to push to much the acelerator till 2500 rpm's to begin run and I don't feel enough power. In hot condition runs very well, but in cool condition runs worst. If I put first gear manually it boots perfectly. I thinking about the problem is from master cilinder, the clutch is in good condition 'cause the car only had 110K miles. Thank's for your help, anb sorry if my english is not the best.:c:

I spoke with some people and the oil for transmission should be dexron 3 or 4. That's is correct?

Thank's. How much oil I need?

wes-cummins 02-09-2010 12:19 PM

i think 7 qts if you just drop the pan, fill it up so it is between the hot and cold line on the dip stick

Today I have changed the oil of the central transmission, but I have realized that the dip stick is not connected to the central transmission. My question the is, the front transmission has different deposit of central transmission. Thank's

what central transmission? you mean transfer case? the dip stick for the transmission, the transfer case got fill plug

gdizama 02-09-2010 06:19 PM

Yes the transfer case I filled up with atf+3 with fill, but dip stick goes to different place?.
Maybe I don't how to explain, tomorrow i will take some pictures and show you. thank's

The order of things is Cummins diesel engine (:jump:), then your 47RE automatic transmission, then the transfer case, leading out to drive lines. So, you filled the transfer case, your dip stick on the passenger side of the truck should fill the transmission. Judging by your description, you are low on oil and may possibly have some damage.

You should use ATF+4 on the transmission if its a stock unit. High performance units with aftermarket cluthes can run Dextron 3.

I understand all the transmission system. In the dip stick the mistake was a low level and the gearbox had a incorrect oil. I fill all the transfer case and gearbox with atf +3 and all works very good. In 20k miles I will chande the filter.Thank's. :choochoo:
