oil pressure gauge bouncing

the oil pressure gauge on my 98 5 speed will read fine and work fine except it will seems to loose oil pressure and fall clear to zero. It only seems to do this in town. Is this something to worry about?

it may be your sensor i bought a new one from napa wheni overhauled my engine and it bounce iratically cause it was defective you should get a mechanical oil pressure guage and hook it to that port on top the oil filter housing to be same no oil pressure is bad you will blow up the engine

I'd be concerned if my gauge was going to zero.

As for a mechanical gauge, if it's jumping around while you are accelerating it's highly likely that you are low on oil. But that only applies to a mechanical type that give you instant readings.

the stock oil gauges on these trucks seem to be junk after awhile mine does the same thing after driving on the high way for awhile it will bounce all around then drop to zero and come back up. i change the oil every 3000 so i know its in there and not burnin up. a solution would be a mechanical pressure gauge

Pretty certain that its the sender. Common problem with these trucks.

Just check the wires to the sender.Mine was bouncing around turned out to be just a loose connection.Cheap or free stuff first.

Definately check the sender first, had one go bad on my truck a few years ago. Would be showing normal pressure, then presto down to 0. Got a little worried and took it into Dodge, ended up with an insane bill--over $300.00 and a flash on the computer I didn't want....:scare2:

definatly look for wires and do the mechanical guage check its easy to do you can get a cheep oil pressure guage at napa for round 20 bucks it has to be a 0-100 psi guage when i start my truck up in the mornings at idel i run 80psi till it warms up

mine bounces between about 35-45 once it warms up, 94cummins12v says the sending unit. id go with that, ill b getting one soon too
