6 speed

i found a 6 speed and almost all the parts i need to convert minus the drive shafts and master, is it worth 2000???

Coco2992 01-20-2010 05:44 PM

is your truck already a 5spd or auto?

dieseldocter16 01-20-2010 06:19 PM

If the trans. is good I'd jump on that. :pca1:

wes-cummins 01-20-2010 07:28 PM

my truck is auto,
do i buy a master cylinder for 97 or o1?:humm:

TwinStackPete379 01-20-2010 09:21 PM

Id go with a 10 speed personally :w2:. 6 speed would be nice also. depends on how deep your pocket book is. good luck

cummins95 01-20-2010 09:58 PM

hell yeah grab onto that n don't let go. wait on second thought, thats a terrible idea. you better send me that number:tttt:

dieseldocter16 01-20-2010 11:36 PM

When i did my swap I order the complete clutch hydraulic set up from Mighty Diesel. Ordered it for an 01 even though my trans came out of an 05 and everything worked perfect. W/ the 6 speed your going to need a starter spacer if you dont already have one.

wes-cummins 01-21-2010 05:59 AM

:c: ha ha ten gears would be to many for pickup!!

where can i get a starter spacer from?

96blackcloud 01-21-2010 08:11 AM

valair sells starter spacers for 6 speed conversions

jimbo486 01-21-2010 02:08 PM

hopefully it's at least a 2001 trans. if so, it's got the larger 1 3/8" input shaft as opposed to the prior 1 1/4":tu:

that one has been tossed around with me a bit I think that would be awesome dont know what it would take to do it but would be pretty cool.

TwinStackPete379 01-21-2010 05:27 PM

I think it would be awesome. Id do it. I saw a You tube video of one in a one ton chevy, it had a 5.9 in front of it. It was bad a**!. Id imagine it would take alot of fab work. They are hheeeaeaaaavvvyyy

wes-cummins 01-21-2010 06:51 PM

yea its an o1, i wish the six speed had 2 over drives in it tho, like a really light overdrive and a heavy overdrive, like .85 and .65 cause 1/1 is to low to tow in on the highway and
.73 is a little high to pull in

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

is there anything i should look into the tranny b4 i put it in? do they throw overdrive gear out like the 5 speeds?

dieseldocter16 01-21-2010 11:51 PM

Drain it, remove the PTO covers and spin the input shaft in each gear.

wes-cummins 01-22-2010 06:57 AM

so as long as it spinns over smooth and no bearing slop, and no shavings come out it will be a good transmission

dieseldocter16 01-22-2010 07:17 AM

Should be! :tu:

Welcome to Diesel Bombers. The 10 speed trans was out of a bg truck. ( Fuller, spicer, exc..) you can retrofit the trans to hug the 5.9. Not sure how yet how to go about it.As for your question, for better respose in the Common rail section for 5.9's:c:.

wes-cummins 01-22-2010 06:04 PM

i wonder if you could put in a 2 speed rearend or somthing?:humm:
?

wes-cummins 01-25-2010 05:35 AM
