i am going to be doing a single maybe a double idk but im going to paint it black. would i use just some engine enamel or what?

Lil Red Express 01-14-2010 08:47 PM

As high temp as you can find. Use some 250 grit sandpaper to rough it up.

Whit 01-14-2010 08:56 PM

get it powder coated if ya can......other wise stove paint

ArizonaRedneck 01-14-2010 09:06 PM

AEROSOL ENGINE ENAMEL-Hirsch Automotive Products check this out bowtech about as high temp as your gonna find:yeah:

I scuffed mine w/ a fine scotch brite, the used VHT ceramic paint good for 1500 degrees. Turned out awesome. :rocking:

FastCR 01-15-2010 09:15 AM

I found a can of header paint good to something like 2200 degrees. duplicolor IIRC.

if you ruff it up with 250 grit paper it will show some nasty scratches coarsest i would go with is like 320 or a scotch brite gray fine pad

X2 I'd use some manifold paint

Racer9 01-15-2010 10:39 AM

The stacks are far enough away from the motor that they don't get real hot. Any paint will do.

One thing I noticed is that the black stacks run alot cooler then the chrome ones i had did. With the black stacks i can touch em right after driving and they're barely warm.

wes-cummins 01-21-2010 07:05 PM

we always used paint for charchol grills on sbc headers good for 1200 and cheaper than header paint

mylilpwny 01-21-2010 09:17 PM

x2 on wes ... i have always used outdoor grill paint ... or some kind of furnace paint

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i have a can in the garage i will loot to see wat it was again cant remember ... but i painted my track cars exaust with it and never had a problem

alejandro70 01-21-2010 09:53 PM

My brother sanded his boner stack as we call it because its a single 7 inch and then just used black BQ paint its good to 1700

bowtech 01-22-2010 10:33 PM

a single black 7 would be sweet you should post a pic

Bullhauler93 05-19-2013 03:09 PM

I have black tip on my truck and even after a long run it doesn't get too hot to touch. I would go with a higher temp paint just to be on the safe side though.
