Removing engine from 97 4x4 dodge

I removed my cummins from my 97. What a bear!!! Does anyone have any advice on the install. I am not sure what else you have to remove but to get it out I had to remove 3 valve covers, the rear lifting bracket and it was still very tight. Any advice would be appreciated.

Pull the head and it will be much easier. The lifting brackets on the head are for assembly line use only, the motors are placed in the frame before the body is mounted.

Pull the head and use some 12mm bolts to bola a chain to the block. Careful not to ding the surface. You want the chain pretty close to flat. This should give you plenty of room to set it in there.

Hopefully you have the front end off. Having just seen this done and helping to some degree. Our motor also had the transmission attached. It is easier in my opinion to get it back in because you've seen how to get it out. We left the valve covers off (12 valve) and covered the top of the engine with clean rags. Being able to readjust the angle is a must. We used a floor jack on the tranny to raise it while we were guiding the engine into position. We also put the motor mounts/brackets on once the engine was close to its final position. Just take it slow and easy. We used one of those two ton engine lifts. The hardest part is getting the oil pan to clear the crossmember. It may be easier to do it with the pan and oil pickup off the engine, then install it after the engine is in the truck. Just a thought. Anyway good luck.
