wanting to up boost
wat is the threshold for our turbo and heads ... and is there other ways of raising boost other then a boost elbow ... mainly diy style that i can do at home for cheap ? ... wanting to get a bit more power
take silencer ring out. i have boost elbow, i think they only like 20 bucks. otherwise ive heard of ppl complety plugging it off, cant say for sure how much boost it can handle but
brother has vp truck hit 45psi many times pulling 10k. any thing up to 35 shuld be safe |
how do you plug it off ? ... could be fun just to mess around for a day
pull hose off turbo where the elbow would go put a plug in the hose and put plug where the hose came off, try that. im not sure if pulling the silencer ring out actually helps, but it sounds nicer.:w2:
ya i pulled the ring before my boost gauge went in ... but didnt notice any difference ... wat would you use to for a plug ?
a bolt... but def watch the boost gauge if u do this
Silencer ring wont add anything power wise but is sure does make it sound better. Most use a plug of some sorts, or crimp the hose off. Anything over 35psi on the stock HX35 is just pulling in hot air.
so just pull the line from the back of the afc housing and shove a bolt in it ?
most definently sounds better with ring out:tu:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- no off the bottom front of turbo. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- underneith where the inlet to turbo is |
there is nothing there ... am i missing something ... its a brass 90 elbow right ... i see nothing ... and the only line on my waste gate runs from it to the back of the afc housing
you cant plug the line at the back of the afc housing unless you gut it. do you have a holset turbo? on mine its located next to the data plate on front of turbo. mabey you got diff turbo.
i have the stock turbo ... to my knowledge .... holset right ... looks stock and doesnt look like anything different ... and had the silencer ring in it like ones i have seen ... any pics of were the elbow is i dont see it
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- the only 90 i see thats in line wit the wastegate is on the side of the block with a line running to the back of the afc housing were the waste gate line attaches |
does the line from the back of the afc housing T and run to the wastegate? or you could just cut the hose rite next to the wastegate and plug both of them
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- i think your truck different, than mine http://www.xtremediesel.com/manuals/1040310ORIFICE.pdf |

dont know if theses will help
theres no t on the back of the wastegate like your view showed ... just a straight line to the afc ... thats the one coming out in the pictures ...
yea urs different than mine. pinch off the line by the waste gate with somthing, or cut it and plug both ends. otherwise i think that yours does T by the injector pump so you could take it off there. but you do need to have a boost line hooked up to the afc.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- yea yours is different than mine. pinch the line off by the waste gate, or cut it and plug both ends where you cut it. or take it off by the pump and plug it. but make sure that the afc housing still sees boost |
there is a 90 that comes off the block like right under the intake horn and a line goes from that to the fitting on the back of the afc housing that the waste gate plugs into .. its a t fitting and the front if in the afc ... top is the waste gate line and the back is the one from the block ... the 90 elbow is straight back from the boost gauge plug ... would that be it ?
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- is that not the stock 97 turbo ? wat year turbo is that or wat is it ?the tag says model is HX35w |
yea if the top is waste gate line then pull it off and plug it
ok cool .. ya cuz it runs right from the waste gate over the top of the engine around the injector lines and goes down to the afc
well plug it and try it and let me know how much boost you get
just cut it and plug both sides?
yea
ok did it ... got up to 20 psi .. but i have a boost leak some were that i knew i had before ... but it made it more noticable ... but it worked ... thanks for the help
check the turbo to intercooler pipe and intercooler to air horn pipe. probably one of those 4 rubber boots
ya thats wat im thinking
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- did you put any sealant or thread locker on the boost gauge plug ? that might be it to ... |
no.. stick a bolt in the line and use a hose clamp to seal it to the bolt
Boost is related to fuel.....so the more fuel you can put to the engine the more boost it will make....So you might not see much more than that is you don't tune the AFC, slide the plate and AFC housing forward.
mine t's on the afc as well.i took the line off that runs to the watsegate and plugged it and stuck i back on. for the plug i took a 16 penny nail and cut the head off with about 3/8 of an inche of the shank still on and stuck it in the hole on the back of the afc. then i slid the hose back over it and clamped it on. worjed just fine for me
Instead of plugging the wastegate why don't you just mess around with adjusting the waste gate if you want more boost. And like duster said boost is related to fuel so you might not like what you see once you adjust or plug the wastegate
how do you adjust the wastegate?
ya i understand about the fuel/boost relation ... i have had many turboed cars in the past ... but i did notice a difference by about 3-4 psi ... but when i put my plate in i expect it will go up more
yaeh and the star wheel if you have it all the way forward you can turn it back to the cab a lil and that will get you more boost to
o .. ok
ummm back put more tension on the spring causing the AFC to move away from the rack later...
how much do you think i should boost stock ... with the star wheel full forward?
