1997 Dodge 2500 4wd Issue

Hello,

My brother has a 1997 Dodge 2500 4wd with a Cummins and a 5 speed transmission. He has been having trouble with the front axle not engaging for the four wheel drive.I believe it is some sort of vacumn system that actuates the fork to engage the front axle. Summit Racing used to sell a cable of some sort to bypass the vacumn system, or whatever it is exactly, and just actuate the fork manually. Having trouble finding the cable now though, does anybody know of a product like that?

Thanks!

i was having having the same problem with my 94 and thought it was low vaccume pressure. it ended up being the fork was sliding the collar over center and wasnt locking the axels togather. i put a small brass washer on the end of the arm that the fork is on and that seemed to fix it

when i had my problem i also checked the vaccum system and the actuator and they were both working good. i had to peplace the u-joints on the front axle to fix the problem. the u joints were wore out and it wasnt letting the axles line up where the sleeve could slide over. if this is your problem make sure to check the splines on the axles, they may have to be cleaned up with a file.
