Ok I had just started my truck after letting is sit for about 45 minutes. I heard some unusual clicking noise that wasnt normally present so i turned the radio down... The higher the rpm got the louder it got. It sounded like a lifter ticking so, I thought it might be an injector going bad because I have heard thats what they sound like. So i had the truck in neutral revved it up to about 2 grand it missed at 1600 rpm the first time i did the this, the second time the same thing. After the third time it started missing on one cylinder at idle... So i got pissed off and revved it up to 2 grand again, it made a funny noise, like something sucked through the injector or something just sucked through the engine... The rattle was still present, it wasnt missing anymore and operated fine... I drove it home about 10 miles and parked it. Called a few diesel mechanics the next day. The one thats really well known in this area thinks the valve seat may have fallen out... Is this common on a 12V motor? Or is there something else it could be? Based on diagnosis which i wont know til next week sometime, I might not be able to afford to fix it... So I was just wondering if you guys may have any other ideas on what the problem could be? sounds like it might be the lift pump, mine was tickin when it went bad

 

tickin... you dont say... we're having some problems with our truck and i've noticed an increase in "ticking" for awhile now. although after today when the truck randomly shut off i dont recall a ticking. plus horrible fuel mileage....

my guess would be its either low fuel pressure (bad lift pump or overflow valve) or air getting into the system
