i thought that it clicks when the battery connection is bad. How much is a starter and how hard is it to do?

You likely dont need a starter...

Go here:

LarryB's Dodge starting problems solved here.

Get the new contacts and plunger, Solenoid Saver Diode, and add-on Starter Relay kit. If your batteries are good - you wont have any starting problems for a very long time.

I just did contacts and plunger in mine. Not Larry B's but bought locally cause I was in a hurry to get this fixed before I was left stranded. I think it cost me like $24. Pretty cheap fix compared to a new starter.

after you turned the key and the truck started my starter used to stay engaged. I had to shut the truck off take the key out and wait for the starter to stop cranking.

Installed LarryB's kit and have never had another problem since.
