oil pressure

about a month ago i changed the oil in my truck and the filter wasnt totally full it was about an inch done from the top maybe a little bit more and when i start the truck sometimes the oil pressure take awhile to come up whats the deal i just rebuilt it and i dont want anything to go wrong with my internals

the oil psi senders on these things arent very good....................the pressure is there its just in the sender and the time to get the signal to the gage

well it still has me worried looks like ill be getting a mechanical gauge next i need to be able to monitor my engines blood. but why wasnt the filter full when i pulled it off?

what oil did you use my buddy put like 5w 40 os something like that in his a little thinner and his gauge wasnt ready right either. The thinner oil must not build up pressure right away.

my filter isnt always full either when I pull it.............dont worry bout that.....................get ya a mechanical gage and tap the open port on the finished (polished) side of the filter head.........I think it 1/8 npt

12valvetater 11-02-2009 04:31 PM

i use rotella t 15w-40 have since day one so im not really worried about that

do you mean on top of the filter mount right beside the high press oil line to the turbo?

Whit 11-02-2009 04:33 PM

yes..........pull the plug there and run a mechanical gage into the cab

12valvetater 11-02-2009 05:07 PM

ok do you have any ideas as to why the oil filter wouldnt be staying full i just think thats kind of weird :humm:

Whit 11-02-2009 05:41 PM

its normal and they do it all the time.............just draining down to the sump.....believe me there is plenty of oil in the system to take care of things.............if you hook up the mechanical gauge in tandem with the OEM electronic you will on start up see that the pressure in instantanious and then the OEM unit will show finally, it just takes a while for that one dude
