Trans Temp Gauge Help
 

ok so i got my new set of gauges and got a trans temp this time ... it came with a new temp sensor to put in the trans ... but my question is ... do i have to drop the pan and replace the stock one ? or can i just use the stock sensor and splice in the guage into the wires ?

would like to know ... dont want to drop the pan lol

That's possible but we recommend replacing the stock with the new one to ensure most accurate reading.

On my 97 I tapped into the hotlilne that comes off the transmission. You just replace the factory plug on the T and insert your the sensor their. Thats also how my local shop does most of the cummins that come in...

rka can you elaborate on that alittle more i am so lost ... the hot line ??? the line from the trans to the cooler ? or something else ? wat plug/t are you talking about

i might try and see if splicing into the stock wires will work for not ... evenif its not perfect it will work for now and give me an idea of wats going on ... and when i have the time (and am going to do more then just replace a sensor ) i will drop the trans pan and replace it

The hot line is the line coming off the transmission, going to the cooler.

i just took a nipple out on the top passenger side and screwed it in but is there away to do away with the stock senser mine always comes un done and my temp light comes on.

so were is the plug your talking about ??? and does the sensor just kinda screw inplace of the plug ? just gettin all the info i need before i tackle the project ... i mean worst thing i drop the pan and replace the stock one ... lol ... but that will have to wait i have no money for trans fliud

The plug is on the driver side near the front of the transmission going into the engine bay. Its fairly easy to find, its a straight line going into the bay and its got a T in it with a bolt.

I'll be back home tomorrow afternoon and can post up a pic of where it is

And yes the screw does replace the plug. Remove the bolt and put the sender in. takes less than 5 minutes

Its real easy to find once you get under there. I managed to find it when I did mine and I had no clue what I was doing and I definetly had no expierence....
