Initial 1 – 2 shift delay with 47RE

I’ve been through the gauntlet with this transmission, with a new valve body, accumulator, TPS, output sensor and governor valve and sensor.

Before I bought this truck (from a Dodge dealer mechanic) he said that it had this 1st to 2nd delay but just on the initial shift after being started. Every shift from then on was ok but if the engine was shut off again, you had the 1 -2 delay again.
He messed with it the day I picked it up from him but as it turns out, 1st gear was just eliminated which became apparent when I installed the new valve body and it came back, along with the first time delayed shift.

I’ve read much about getting the ECM re-flashed and that’s my next step. Is this anything that anyone has run across before? I’ve searched through the posts several times and find delayed shifting but in the context of a problem that is always there not just once after startup.

I see the older transmissions had the hunting problem also. :argh:

try adjusting the front band real easy!

Thanks for the response..

I guess I forgot to mention that I did adjust the bands, both front and rear. One other thing that I remembered is the fact that ever since changing the valve body, the TC drains down pretty quick, in a matter of a few hours... Wasn't like that with the previous VB.

I have the exact same problem. After reading your psot I thought you were driving my truck and I yours.
