well that little turd was out about a third of the way but it is killed now!!!!! can't believe the tens of thousand of trucks out there and only about 5% of the owners are aware of this hidden danger. thanks to diesel bombers for all the good info!!!!! p.s. while i have the cover off do any of you have a link to how to set timing? only want to go to 16* as i got stock head bolts and gasket. what are the special tools i need for this?
Awesome - crisis averted
make sure you loctite the other bolts under the timing case. If they fall out - it can be the same result as the dowel pin coming out.
For the most accurate timing you need a timing set consisting of a dial guage, delivery valve socket, guage holder and a barring tool.
Its looks like this:
SP500, Set, Diesel Timing Gauge
Barring Tool: Yahoo! Image Detail for http://www.handsontools.com/image_manager/attributes/image/image_3/204076_252489.jpg
