Whats the difference?

Whats the difference between a 97 dodge 2500 5speed 4x4 slt and a 95 dodge 2500 5speed 4x4 slt? I have herd that the injectors are different and the pump has smaller plungers and different timming? the 95s a 175 horse and the 97 is a 215. is this all true? and am i missing anything?

Depends, We need the CPL for the engine to help you with that!

the 95 should have the 175 pump timed 12-13* with 131dv's and a 5x.009 injector
the 97 should have the 215 pump timed 13.5-14* with 181dv's and a 5x.010 injector

both pumps have 12mm plungers and barrels and the cams in these pumps are both different. the gov in the 215 is also better but the 215 pump retards the timing as the rack advances. the 160,175, and 180 pumps don't do this.

How do the cams in the pump differ? I know that the 215 pumps retard the timming on the higher rpms. can i run the mack rack plug in the 175 pump? should i be able to make the same power as the 215 pump? or is the 175 capable of making more power because it does not retard the timming?

the 215 is a great pump for the street becuase you dont need 3k + rpms to drive around and can make good power but off the road the notches kill high rpm performance with the retarded timing you can however put plungers in without notches to get rid off that and yes you can use a rack plug in the 175 pump as far as more power theyll both make big power it depends on what you want to do

the 215 and the 180 cams have more fill time than the 160 and 175 pumps. meaning they have a better flow of fuel in the upper rpm range ( not saying you cant turn big rpm with 160 or 175 pumps). I made 570 rwhp with a 175 pump that never had the barrels turned. pump had 4k's, 191's, afc modded, no plate, 22.5* of timing, and the mack plug.

when you say you modded the afc, what did you do? the washer flip? and grinding the barrel? How hard would it be to achive 350hp or so? I just want a fun driver that i could beat around and have some fun pulling time to time, and a lil street racing time to time

Thanks guys for the information, i think im getting a 175 5speed truck so i just want to make sure im not making a mistake on trading my 180hp 97 cummins for a 175hp 5speed

You can make 350hp to the wheels on a 215 with out spending a dollar if you know how.
I did not have a Dollar in my truck and was putting 370 to the wheels. on a 97 5sp but i also was running some high Egts and still am with a stock turbo

ya, i bet, but what about the 175 pumped trucks. I have a friend that put that power down in his truck and all we spent money on was governer springs the rest was free mods that i learned from this site, so now im trying to see what needs to be done to get similar power out of the 175 pumped trucks, so i can beat my buddies 215 pump.

181s rack plug gsk and 215 injectors with an hx 40 a proper tuned pump and he will be begging for mercy
