just so you guys know some of the years actually didnt come with a gasket between the gear housing and the block, they used good ole silicone, cummins uses the grey stuff. and if you are pulling the cam i always say pull the oil pan. to do this um bolt the engine mounts use a cherry picker and pick up the engine in the truck this should give you enough clearance to get the pan out and makes life much easier with the cam removal. you wont need a valve spring compressor the rocker will do that when you tighten them back down. good luck
alright, well this one had a gasket between so i ordered one.
i also ordered the mack rack plug just for s&g, n since i have so much room to work
i slid the plate the rest of the way. next question, how do i adjust the rack travel to take advantage of the rack plug?

its a dowel pin cummins used to align the timing case with the block, after a while it'll rattle out n cause 1 of 3 things...
1 it falls down around the timing gears into the oil pan n nothin happens
2- (what happened to me) pin falls down lodges between cam gear and gear housing, steel vs aluminum, steel wins... new timing case needed and alot of work to get to it
3- pin falls down, wedges between gears, snaps cam gear off, valves stop moving but the pistons keep on goin, thats the worst case senario
i strongly suggest you tab yours before moving your truck another inch, 100 bucks now is better than 5 or 6 later...
